3. Benzyl alcohol and Isopropyl alcohol. Not all alcohols found in hair products are bad, but most are, like isopropyl alochol, alcohol denat, alcohol sd 40 and benzyl alcohol, amongst others. These alcohols are man-made in a lab and they suck moisture from you hair, causing it to be dry and brittle, which results in breakage and split ends. The good ones include cetyl, stearyl and cetearyl alcohol, which are derived from fruits and act as moisture-attracting ingredients.
4. Mineral oil. This is a by-product of the distillation of gasoline from crude oil. It's often masked as parafinnium liquidum, but trust and believe it's the same. It's also very toxic. Besides being flat out gross, mineral oil prevents moisture from getting in your hair. This ingredient oftentimes can’t be removed sufficiently without using a sulfate-based shampoo, which again causes brittleness and dryness.
Be mindful of what you use on your hair, scalp and skin. Since the skin is the largest organ on the body, it absorbs the products you put on it, and they go into the bloodstream, even from your scalp.
